Our Halloween!!

Today, I had breakfast with Sherry and then went to her house for a little while. The rest of the day, I ran around getting everything ready for my church's Women's Ministry Painting Event on Sunday. We have 18 people sign-up! The largest amount yet! I am so excited about it! We always have the best time!

I picked Mana up from school. We went to Wal-Mart to get some lace for her gloves. I had a last minute idea to add some lace and a green ribbon on them. They turned out really cute. We went to my Sis-in-law's house for supper. Then all the cousins went Trick-or-Treating. Mana had to hold up her hoop skirt to run from house to house. It was hilariously funny! We then left there and went to my Church's Fall Festival. It was packed out! I got to take lots of pictures. Mana found her friend Lauryn and they were inseparable. They both tried Funnel cakes for the first time. They loved them! We all had a great time!

Roll Tide, Purses and Spiders

Today started off with breakfast with some friends of mine. I love going to breakfast with my friends. It is one of my favorite things to do. Afterwards, I headed across town to Michael's Arts and Crafts store. I picked up the canvases for my church's Women's Ministry Painting Event that is Sunday. I can't wait. It will be so much fun!! I did some other shopping while I was out there. I wanted to have lunch at Guthrie's, (One of my favorites) but they closed it down. So disappointed! I saw a great car in that parking lot. It was an Alabama Crimson Tide car! Love it!

After I picked up Mana from school, we went to a friend's house to look at some purses. She sells those great giraffe purses. Giraffes are my favorite animals. I might get one for Christmas. We went to eat supper with them at Sonics. A bee got in her vehicle and you have never seen two women and three children jump out of a car so fast in your life. There were also bees around the tables so that got pretty interesting also. The kids started trying to trick me. They kept screaming that there was a bee behind me. It was humorous for the first couple of times. We went home and got Mana ready for Ballet and off we went again. I took Mana's costume so I could steam it. I finally finished it about 7 pm. Then I had to unload the canvases at church. We got home around 7:36 pm. Mana's bedtime is at 8 pm. She also needed to do her homework. She finally got in bed about 9:30 pm!

Mana has been begging me to get a spider web and spiders to decorate our front door. Let me tell you why... about two years ago, we put up a web and several spiders on the inside of the door. I woke up in the middle of the night (did not have my glasses on) and saw a spider on the door. I proceeded to go into the kitchen and grab a can of spider spray and I sprayed down that fake spider real well. LOL!!! Mana thought that was so funny, that she wants spiders every year so she can pick on me! I bought her some spiders today and we have hung them on the front door. She said that if I wake up in the middle of the night, she will make sure I remember that they are FAKE spiders!

In response to Jamie's Blog post:

There are to many types of candy that I would NOT like to find at the bottom of my Halloween bag. Instead, I will post what I would like to find in Mana's Halloween bag (for me!)....

Hershey Kisses
Peanut M & Ms
(My cure all attitude candy!! Just ask my art students! LOL)
Hershey Bar
Reese's Cups

My all time favorite:
Pixie Sticks (RED)

I got the Builder out!! And I went to Bible Study tonight! That is it! Not very exciting, (the Bible study was, just not the overall day) but a good day none the less! Hope everyone of you had a great day today.

Proofing, Frustration and Tinker Bell

My wonderful proofer, who happen to be out of town yesterday, came home late in the evening and still managed to proof the Builder! (Thanks! You are the BEST!) She called me around 10 am and told me that she dropped it off at the church. I was so excited that there was a chance for me to get the Builder mailed today! Well, did not happen. My work computer was not working and the program I do the labels with had to be reworked. (We updated it and it messed it up) Needless to say I was very frustrated by the time I picked up Mana from school. But it got better. When Mana had her voice lesson tonight, I went to the office and managed to print out a copy for Pastor Steve to look at. I was going to go somewhere tomorrow and it turns out that my friend's kid's field trip had been moved to Wednesday. We postponed our outing. Now I can work tomorrow!! Everything worked out for the better. I can get done with the Builder and then I can enjoy our outing with out having to think of how I need to be finishing up the Builder!!

I bought Mana the "Tinker Bell" movie today. After voice, we went to the gym to say hi to Debbie and Robin. I know better to go over there on a school night. I always stay to long. We got home and Mana wanted to watch the movie. I was an irresponsible mommy and we sat down to watch it. She finally got to bed around 9:15 pm. An hour and fifteen minutes past bed time. I hope I don't regret that in the morning!

Work, Field Trip and Paintings

Not much to write about today except I worked a lot! I came real close to finishing the Builder. I would have been finished, but I have some space issues to fix. I hope I can come up with a way to fix the space problems. I do have to add information about the parade coming up and I could think of one more thing I can add. I probably will have it done on Thursday! It will be mailed before the first and that is what counts! My work computer was acting up tonight. My office buddy was trying to get it fixed for tomorrow! Pray that everything lines up well and I get it out on time!

I picked up my two art students for class this afternoon. We were going on a field trip to the museum to see the
Leonardo da Vinci: Drawings from the Biblioteca Reale in Turin exhibit. I looked it up to find out all the information to be ready for class and found out the museum is not open on Mondays. I was disappointed. I'll take them another day. They came to my house and finished up their radial textural painting. I forgot to take pictures of their paintings. That is why I do not have a picture of the day today! I will take them next time I see them and post them later. They turned out really well!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Friday was Mana's Fall Festival at school. There were all kinds of things for the kids to do. Inflatables, face painting, putt putt, football toss and sweet shop to name a few. The kids had a great time. Half the time Mana hung around her friend Lauryn. Her mom had to go back to work so she came home with us. I took them to McDonald's for supper. That night, after Anggie got of work, she came over and we played with the Fall Festival pictures on the computer.

Saturday morning we woke up and started to get ready to go see a movie. Mana was about to take a shower and we had no hot water. I called my dad and he said he would come up and see
what he could do. Anggie had already bought tickets for the movie and I didn't want to miss out on that and her to lose the money, so I tried to make other arrangements. I know that my priorities were a little backwards. When a friend buys your tickets for the movies and the kids have been waiting a long time for this movie to come out, you feel obligated to pick going to the movies. Plus we promised we would take them. So off to see High School Musical 3 we went. The other arrangements fell through and I had to call my dad that night and ask him to come on Sunday. High School Musical 3 was a great movie. I liked it better than 1 or 2!

Sunday, my dad and brother-in-law came up around 9 am. Things didn't go to well at first. They had to cut the water pipes because they would not com
e loose. When we went to Lowe's, they didn't have the same size water heater I had before and I had to get a smaller one. Then after they got it in, they found two water leaks they had to fix and a spot on my roof that was leaking. (The place on my roof was leaking down on top of the water heater and that is what messed it up!) It is all good now.

Bird, Cow & Relief

I went into today knowing that it would be a packed day. My Church's Arts program did chapel this morning at Mana's school. It started at 8:30 am. I went to take pictures of the little ones doing their ballet performance. They were so cute. I got out in time to head across town to get my hair cut. When I arrived home, I reached over to get my camera bag from the passenger side and a bird landed on the car window with a loud thud. There the bird was looking at me through the window. It startled me! I screamed! (Every morning, two birds are sitting on my car side mirrors. When Mana and I go outside they fly into the tree and chase each other around. This has been happening for a couple of weeks now.) I decided to sit in my car and eat my lunch ready with my camera. It did not take long. The bird came back and walked around on my car window seals and then on my side mirror. I got a few pictures! I was so excited! It was nice to just sit and enjoy my lunch and soak in all of God's wonderful nature.

I did some work and headed back to the school to pick up Mana for her doctor appointment at Children's. It turns out, she did not have to have the VCUG test! She was so relieved! We talked to the nurse practitioner and then the doctor. They said that she needed to get more fiber in her diet. If you know my child, you know that the list of fiber food choices were not what she likes. We found three items on the list that she eats. We will be trying new foods. Please pray for us to find more foods my child will eat that are on this list!

When we got home, Mana got ready for ballet and ate her supper. Today, some of Mana's ballet classmates got to move up t
o Ballet I. She was a little disappointed that she did not get to move up also, but the ones that did where in Jr. Ballet last year and really should of been in the other class anyway. She is glad she is still with Ms. Johnson though!

Breakfast, Grades, & Ambition

This morning I went to Jack's with two of my friends. Their children are in Mana's class at school. I have not been out with them since the kids were in first grade. I enjoyed spending time with them. They are really nice ladies.

Mana got her report card today. She made the "A" honor roll! I am so proud of her. This year, so far, has been a little harder on her. I was wondering if she would bring home a "B" this time. She seems to lose her concentration on her math tests. She does well in math. She just does
not focus well on her math tests. All other tests she doesn't have any trouble focusing on. I think what happens is that she can just memorize the information for the others, so she doesn't have to think about it. She has to think on the math tests. We are working on memorizing the multiplication tables but those will take a while. Our deal is, if she makes "A" honor roll she can pick out something at the store. If she makes "A/B" honor roll, she has to be happy with an "I am proud of you, Good Job!" We went to Wal-Mart after I picked her up from school. She picked out a set of Bratz dolls.

I arrived at Church tonight only to find out that our teacher for our Bible Study "Captivating" was sick and we were not going to have class. We were sad she was sick, and we were all disappointed that our class was canceled. I would have to say we are an ambitious bunch. We all decided to hold the class anyway. We decided that Meka would lead the class for us.
After we all read two great chapters in this book and had prepared ourselves for the lesson, we didn't want to wait another week to discuss all that God was showing us. We had some great discussions and all of us shared. That included me. It wasn't all that hard. I survived!!! Praise God!!! I really wish Benita could have been there. She would have been proud of all of us for speaking up.

Photography, M&Ms & Funito!

Today I went with my friend Sherry to visit a friend of hers. She is a photographer. I great one at that. First of all, her house is gorgeous. Her yard has places set up that are perfect for photo shoots. She has photographs that she has taken out everywhere. She paints some of her photographs also. They are beautiful! I was amazed all day. I watched and soaked in all the things her and Sherry were doing to set up a photo shoot for in the morning! I am so glad Sherry invited me to go along with her today!

Mana had her first voice lesson this afternoon. Her teacher is wonderful with her and really sweet. Mana had a great time and learned a few new warm-ups to do. One was "My mommy made me mash my m&ms!" Mana thought that was funny!

Mana's school was having a book fair today. I wrote her a check this morning and she came home with six books. She has already read three of them. She curled up with me and read me "Bolt". Then I read her "Skippy jon Jones In Mummy Trouble". (My favorite book!) I love the Skippy jon Jones books. Mana likes to let me read them because they have a lot of tongue twisters in them. She likes to hear me me
ss up on them. There is a part in the books where the cat goes and visits some Mexican Chihuahuas and a lot of the words end with ito. Then there is a part that the dogs sing and they "clap-clap" after each sentence. It is funito! We have to sing that and "clap-clap"! You just have to read one of these books!

Socks, Art and Adjustments

As everyone knows, it was cold this morning! I told Mana last night that I was not going to turn the heater on yet because of the awful smell that heaters give off the very first time you turn them on. I made her wear socks to bed and tucked her in with two blankets. She was fine. I was cold. I hit the alarm several times this morning trying to avoid getting up. I finally turned the heater on after I dropped her off at school. The smell was strong, but only lasted about 30 minutes. Now it is a nice temperature in the house!

I really do not know what I did today. Not much. The day went by really quickly. I did get the kitchen straightened up for art class. I also straightened the living room and bathroom up. I picked up Mana and my art students after school. They prepared their canvas for a painting they will do next class time. Then Mana and I wen
t to Mrs. Kathy's house to give her Mana's new jeans for hemming and some formal dresses and costumes that needed some adjustments. Mana's school is going to have a pageant this year and I found some dresses for her at the thrift store for about $6 each. (Regular $130 dresses. I looked the brands up on the computer.) I got her four different dresses. I didn't know which one would look better after the adjustments, or what time of year the pageant would be so I bought them all. She plays in them anyway. They are her dress-up clothes.

Picture of the day...
"Go to Church or the devil will get you sign"
I see this sign every time I go to see my family.
If I was an unbeliever, this sign would not make me want to go to church. Sad, but true. Even as a believer, it makes me think I would never want to meet the person that put this sign up.
"Scarecrow"
Every time I walk out the front door I see the scarecrow Mana made and think it is someone sitting on my swing! scary! By the way, it is a girl scarecrow! She has pink hair and lip stick.

Politics, Hay and Singing

This weekend was my turn to stay with my grandmother. I woke up around 6:15 am and got on the road around 7 am. When I made it down to my grandmother's, my uncle and aunt had already left to go home. I called my sister to tell her I was there. She asked if I had brought a book. I did. My bible study books to be exact. I asked her why. She said that all grandmother did was sleep a lot. Uhhhh, NO. She talked the whole entire time I was there. Non-stop! About politics and other things we will not mention. Just so you know, I hate to talk politics! So much, that I will leave the room to get away from the discussion. She also told me the same four stories around 20 times each. I was good and sat there and listened. No time to read my Bible study books at all. Thank goodness I had already read the one for tonight! I am glad I got to spend some time with my grandmother, even if it was spent listening to politics.

Around 6 pm Saturday night my sister-in-law called and told me she had gotten Mana and was on their way home. Mana was wheezing as she was breathing and her chest was hurting. Mana spend the day at the pumpkin festival and had stuffed a scarecrow with hay. I think between the two days of being outside all day and being in the hay was just to much for her. Her aunt gave her a breathing treatment and 30 minutes later she was fine.

Today, I left grandmother's around 12 noon and went by my dad's house. I did not get to go by and see him the last two times I was down. I visited for about an hour and headed on home. My brother-in-law brought my sweet little girl home. Then off to church we went to the Bible study. The Bible study went well. I actually talked in class tonight. And, no crying! Yeah! :) AND, it was about Pride. I thought for sure it would come a crazy flood tonight! Oh, and I wrote on the board. In front of people! I know you are probably laughing by now! I am! To really think about it, it is funny to some extent. Why should I be afraid in front of these wonderful, caring women? I guess I just needed to realize that the hard way. (Jamie, you would have a lot to proof in this blog entry! :) And it is ok you picked on me tonight in class! :) For those that do not know, Jamie proofs the Church's newsletter I do every month and thanks to her I think before I start sentences with And and But! Not this time! LOL!)

We had a Senior choir come and sing at our church tonight. They were wonderful. One lady played a solo piano piece. It is one of my favorite songs and I just can not remember the name of the music. I was going to get the program to see if they listed it, but I forgot to by the time it was over. Mana wanted to go to the fellowship afterwards. She was so tired and it was getting late so I told her no. We also had to go by Wal-Mart to pick up her allergy medicine for in the morning. Now I am washing clothes and hope to get to bed soon.

Picture of the day...
"Deer Crossing"
Ok, I do not have a picture I took this weekend. So I decided I would give you a deer crossing sign in honor of my effort on getting a picture. I went to the store for my grandmother and on the way back I had five deer run across the road in front of me. I struggled with finding my point & shoot camera in my purse while watching them. I found it only in time to take a picture of... nothing. Two more were in the woods ready to cross, but decided not to.

Noccalula, Mexican, and Bees

OK, I know that is a strange mixture, but it equals a great time!

Today, Mana's class went on a field trip to Noccalula Falls. When we stepped out the front door this morning it was raining. I thought for sure they would cancel. It rained all the way there. But the sun decided to shine once we got there. We had a great time. It really is a pretty place. Mana and I will definitely go back to take pictures! You knew that was coming!

After we got back from the field trip, Mana and I packed her clothes to go and spend the night with her GranMary and Paw Paw. Her cousin was also spending the night. Mana was really excited! GranMary and Paw Paw usually takes each cousin to do something special. Justin's special something is to go to a pumpkin patch festival each year. This year he wanted his cousins to come along also. That is so sweet to share his special day! I am so glad that Mana has great cousins and they all love to spend time together. I am sure they will have a great time.

I dropped her off and met my Sisters-in-lovs at Habernaros Mexican Restaurant for supper. We were meeting Carlye's mother and two of her friends.
Her mom has been taking care of her mother and needed a girls' night out. I have not had Mexican in a while. It was a good choice for supper. We then went to see "The Secret Lives of Bees". Carlye and her mom had read the book. They said the movie went straight by the book. I do not know of to many movies based on books that do that. It was a wonderful movie. I would watch it again and I usually do not care to watch movies over again. When Carlye invited me she had told me that the mother dies in the movie and asked if that was going to get to me. I told her I would be ok. She did NOT tell me the story literally had bees in it! (a lot of them!) I really am afraid of bees, so I was a little squeamish about them. Hopefully I will not dream about bees buzzing around me all night!

Photoshop

I have had time to play around with some of the pictures I took of Mana today. Here are some of my favorites.

Photo Shoot

Mana and I did a new photo shoot today. She loves playing dress up and I love taking pictures. What a perfect combination! It was her idea to stripe her eyelids yellow and black like a bee! We had a lot of fun! We didn't have to much time to take a lot of pictures because it started sprinkling and she also has to go to ballet tonight. She wanted to go in her makeup. I said no. But how cute she looked! I will post more pictures when I have more time to play with them in Photoshop! :)

Dusting

Well, today I have tried to do a little cleaning. I figure if I did one or two things a day, I would not get overwhelmed and quit! So I am dusting today. When I dusted my clock I thought it would be great for a picture! I like how it turned out.

An Eventful Weekend

Friday afternoon, Mana and I set a goal to have the house straightened up by the time Anggie and her daughter came over. I started on the bathroom and then the living room. I looked in Mana's room and I couldn't tell that she had done anything. You can't even walk in this child's room. The floor is covered with toys, arts and crafts, and dress up clothes. I remembered the website flylady.com and the 5 minute room rescue. I put Mana to work. Five minutes to pick up trash. Five minutes to pick up animals and dolls. Five minutes to pick up movies and cds. Five minutes to pick up dress up clothes. It got done!! It was a game and it was fun! (Why did I not use this before now?) The room is not completely clean by no means, but you can see the floor!! Anggie and her daughter met us at McDonald's. When we got back to the house we pulled the scrapbook table out and set up all our stuff. Then we pulled out the Bible study books and started talking. We had a great talk until 11:30 pm! Needless to say, we did not scrapbook anything. Still a great night. I crave those inspiring conversations about our Lord and Savior!

Saturday, Mana and I went shopping at Wal-Mart for her another costume. Her school is having a carnival and are letting the kids wear their costumes that day. Mana is going to be a southern belle. Her big dress is white. I could see her dress after the playground; an orange brown color. This costume cost to much for her to get it messed up before the 31st! We found her a purple medieval princess costume. We then went to her friend's birthday party. She had a good time playing with her friend until we had to go around 7:30 pm. I stayed up until 2 am getting caught up on the chapters for Sunday night's Bible study. I had five chapters to read. I read three.

Sunday, we went to church. Afterwards, we went home for me to finish the last two chapters before the parade committee meeting that afternoon. We were going on a field trip for our Bible study class. We went to Jamie's house to eat supper. Everything was delicious. I am an overly picky eater, but I did try a few things that were new for me. I liked the new things I tried. We all went in her living room and had our Bible study discussion. I would have to say it was a wonderful time. I like having Bible study at people's houses. I like the atmosphere. It is homey and comfortable. Of course, I set in the corner with my arms crossed and my book in my lap. I did manage to relax more then usual in a group setting! I would like all Bible study groups to be held at someone's house. How great and fun would that be?! People seem to open up more. I probably would eventually.

Today Mana and I got up late! Always love that! I stayed up late reading one of the three chapters we had for homework. I got up really early and read the second chapter this morning and then went back to bed. We just laid around all morning. We finally got up and got ready to go see "Beverly Hills Chihuahua". It was good. Mana really liked it a lot. Every once in a while, she burst out with "Chihuahua". Just random like! We went to Chick-fila after the movie. Then we went to JcPenny to find her some bluejeans. They had the cutest dresses. (Not what we were looking for. I know!) I bought her two long-sleeve shirts, a pair of jeans, and a dress. They had a good sale going. She did need winter clothes. When I find clothes that fit her, we have to get them. She is so hard to buy clothes for!! Shoes are even worse! The child has flip-flops and a pair of tennis shoes. That is all. She has a skinny heal. She walks out of all the cute style shoes!

Mana was to spend the night with a friend of hers Sunday night. We got home from church and had a message that her mom was in a wreck and was in the hospital. I tried to call her room several times and did not get an answer. I finally got a hold of her today. She was going down a steep hill and lost control of her car. She hit a huge rock that stopped the car from going off the steep drop off. She was not wearing her seat belt thank goodness. (I am a firm believer in seat belts, but know in some situations it does not help) Her driver's side got the worst of it. She was thrown to the passenger's side, so she lived! She was still beat up really bad. She got out of the hospital today. She will be out of work for a week. Please pray for her recovery and for her family. Her daughter was not with her, but did see the vehicle after the accident, before seeing her mom. I am sure that was a horrifying sight for an eight year old.

Chipped

Ever since I got my new camera I have wanted to take pictures of the stain glass in my church's sanctuary. The windows are absolutely beautiful! I finally had time to take some. When I started to look at the windows closely I found out that they are not perfect pieces of glass. If you saw an individual piece of this glass on the sidewalk you probably wouldn't even pick it up. It had bubbles, scratches and places that were chipped and cracked. Just like us. We have situations and events in our lives that has chipped away at us and has in one way or another shaped us into the individuals we are today. Some good and some not so good. The great part is when God's light shines through us, others see His Beauty, His Grace! Not us! Not our insecurities! Just like the glass, the light shines through all those individual pieces and it is magnificent!

Painting Event

To catch up on the week... it has been filled with fun projects and relaxation. I have been working on the Women's Ministry publications. We have a painting event and a Mad Hatter Tea Party coming up. We are painting one of my original Christmas paintings for the event. I had to borrow the painting from my sister who snatched it up last Christmas. I am glad I get to paint it again to have one for my house!

A Decision!

The drum man came to Mana's school today for chapel. He has come every year Mana has been there. All the students love it when he comes. He is very energetic and funny.

As you know from past blogs, my grandmother had a rough time a week ago. My sister and I are now faced with a differcult decision. Does she continue to live by herself? NO. Does she move close to my sister? Not likely. Does she live in an assistive living home? Not likely. None of these are going to be what my grandmother will want! Of course she wants to stay in her own home. What do you do? Please pray that God will give us an answer that everyone will be comfortable with.

Just to Relax :)

Here it is Monday and I am exhausted. Last week was a long one. I am so glad to be home and able to just rest. Mana is off school today because of parent/teacher conferences. It could not have come on a better day. I needed some Mana time and a lot of rest. We slept late and have been laying around all day. I canceled art class for today so I wouldn't have anything to do. It has really been nice to just relax. I wish my sister could have that chance also! She really needs that! Grandma came home on Saturday. She is doing well. She is getting back to her spunky self.

Grandma's medic came to visit her before she left the hospital. He said that in the three years he worked as a medic only two people survived what she went through. Her and a 12 year old. She is 88 and one tough cookie.

Saturday morning I went to my Sis-in-law's house for a Mary Kay party. My other Sis-in-law and Mother-in-law came also. We had the best time. Girls parties are alway a lot of fun! I didn't leave to go back to grandma's until 2 pm. Mana spend the night with my Sis-in-law. She was so glad she could stay and play with her cousins. Mana has been passed around from one house to the next
this whole last week. I think she did well. When I went to pick her up on Sunday afternoon, she didn't even give me a hug. I guess she had a great time! She didn't even want to come home. She did give me a big hug once we were home.
